To me, it is very important to love your room. Most likely you spend a lot of time in there. I think it is important to have your room resemble your personality, and your interests so while your in there you are happy, and positive. I am going to give you one strategy to make your room a place you love, and you can follow these steps to make it great!
#1 Make A List Of Your Favorite Things
Anyone who knows me, knows that I love my lists! But I completely recommend this! Just write out all of the things that you love, and are passionate about!
Example:
- Makeup
- A sport
- A city
- Fashion
- An activity/hobby
#2 Add to the list some other things
Next you want to add other things to the list that you love, and can still incorporate into your room, along with the activities, and objects you love..
Example:
- Favorite Color
- Favorite Quotes
- Favorite Pattern
#3 Draw Out Your 'Room Plan'
Just draw out your room, and think about where you want all of your furniture to go because you want to make sure that you know what space you have, and what walls will be open for decorations. I Recommend making your room so that way there is a large amount of space right in the middle because it just makes the room feel so much bigger, and plus if you ever want to dance around (don't act like you don't do that) then you have plenty of room to do so!
#4 Paint That Room (optional)
If you are going for a total makeover, and want a fresh start, then painting your room is a great option because it just makes it feel so new, and plus it is just a nice change!
#5 Rearrange Your Furniture
This just makes your room feel new, and it is just exciting, and a nice change. Plus it gives you an opportunity to deep clean.
#6 Find Some Items,Mementos, or Posters
Remember that trip you took last year, or that show you went to(or want to go too)? Well use those items, and items from anything in general to spice up your room. If you have a lot of tickets, then get a bulletin board and post photos, and souvenirs from anything and everything. For me, I love Broadway, and I have a wall in my room where I have a playbill poster surrounded by playbill frames, and the playbill frames with a ticket holder in it! Now the frames, and the poster did cost money, but it was worth it, and plus I already had the playbills, and the tickets anyways. Another thing I have is a wall where I have a poster from digitour, some posters from shows I have been in, a post card from NYC, and a joke gift I got from my ski team last year. I even have a tag from a shirt I got when I saw the Newsies, on the wall as well. So you can literally use anything.
Tip: If you have one specific interest such as my Broadway interest, then dedicate one wall, or one area for that interest!
#7 Decorate Your Door
I love to decorate my door with things as well because I don't care as much about having empty door space. On the outside of my door I have a sign I got from when I went to NYC, and on the inside I have a The Walking Dead poster.
#8 Collect
You might not have everything right away, but eventually you will collect enough things to be satisfied with your room, and how it turns out. If you want to you can even splurge in some decoration! I for instance, was fortunate enough to be gifted a NYC three piece canvas for my wall above my bed. This is great because as you probably can tell from all of my NYC things, I love New York City, but it is quite far from where I live so I cannot go there often, I have only been once, but I am reminded of what it looks like with all of these things (even though I haven't put up the canvases yet.....ooopsies). Therefore even if you have something you are interested in, like, want to see, or get, you don't necessarily need to go there to get all of these things. You can print out pictures of things online, and paste it onto poster board, and then cut it out! The possibilities are endless, just be creative!
I hope you love your new room! Let me know how it turned out, and please send my a picture of your favorite wall, or your favorite thing in your room! I am very nosy and would love to see!
