A few months ago God truly found me. I knew I wanted to start a relationship with God and with Jesus, but I did not how to begin this faithful journey in my life. However, here I am a few months later and I feel more spiritual than ever. I know I still have a lot to learn, but you always do when it comes to Christ. Here are my tips for starting a relationship with Christ.
1. Pray
This is so simple ,but so true. I pray so much. I pray every morning when I wake up to thank God for a safe night. I pray when I am aware I have sinned. I pray before I, or my family eats. I pray before I go to bed. I pray a lot in between. Praying does not have to be a set prayer, you can legitimately just talk to God. It takes a little bit of getting used to, but you get the hang of it as you practice. Remember God knows that you are new to this, and he knows that you are trying and he will help you to learn to pray better. Remember, do not just pray for things, pray for thanks, forgiveness, and just worship as well. Pray for others, and do not ask for too many things, do not be selfish. Ask for wisdom rather than something physical or of the flesh. Do not ask for a long life, but rather ask for help to live the life God wants you to.
2. Read The Bible
This is the best way to truly get to know God. God's word allows for you to understand and read all about him and the miracles that he has went through. I started off reading a chapter a day, then three, then five, and now I read 5-7 (mostly 7) chapters a day. I love it. I will be finishing the whole Bible by the end of June. I also recommend starting from the beginning and working your way through because it is very confusing to skip around. Also make sure to educate yourself about other aspects of the Bible while you are reading it at the beginning though because a lot of things occur within the Bible later on that will change the way you view a certain event within the Bible.
3. Pray The Rosary
I never really understood Mary all that much until I began to pray the rosary. Praying the rosary allows for you to worship through prayer, which I believe is the hardest kind of prayer to just 'think of'. Also it allows you to truly understand the magnitude of Jesus, and Mary. It truly is amazing and I recommend doing this everyday. Here is a website to help teach you how to pray the rosary here.
4. Start A Bible Study
Now you can go to a real life Bible study, or you can download the Holy Bible app and go to the plan section and start a bunch of plans that help you study the Bible. I like to do this because it helps me understand other elements of Christ while I am still reading the Old Testament, so I can have prerequisite knowledge when I get to the New Testament. There is even a Bible plan on the app that helps you start a relationship with Jesus. The app is great, you can read the Bible, highlight, make notes, and do plans, and soooo much more. (disclaimer: this is not sponsored this is like a big app that I just like, I do not know anyone from the company at all).
5. Watch/Attend Mass
Go to Mass at least every Sunday. However, I know this can be difficult, especially if you are like me and cannot physically go to Mass on Sunday because of the fact that you cannot bring yourself their. However, there is another option. There is a website that I recently found where you can watch a Sunday Mass online. It is not technically going to Mass, but your heart is in it. You can find this website here.
If you are having a hard time starting that relationship, feel free to contact me, I would be happy to give more support and advice.
